The main highlight for us this week has been having our roof redone this time with a permanent finish which has a pattern of stone work in it.
A group of men came at 7 am on Monday and worked every day all week right up until Saturday.
Tuesday, because of all the noise of scraping and pounding on our roof we decided to take a while to get out of the house. The red chair restaurant on Timon is our favourite at lunch time, just as we sat down the rain came pouring down! Thankfully we were under the canopy and didn't get wet.
Allan had breaded shrimp
and I had shrimp empanadas - delicious!
Before we finished lunch the rain stopped and the sun was shining again.
Poor Charlie Brown, - both the boat and the man, who everyone knows from the town docks. This boat became untied from the town dock area and drifted to the Government Dock where it was bashed against the docks there by rough seas. One would expect it is not repairable but we will see what Charlie Brown decides to do with Charlie Brown.
Our good friend Abraham took us to Cancun and to De la Expo for lunch which serves lamb.
The statue of the lamb outside is the only clue as to
what is on the menu.
These are empanadas de sesos or empanadas with brains (of the sheep)
This is a closer look at the cooked brains inside the empanadas. They were very tasty actually, needless to say Allan wouldn't try them.
Ah! At last something Allan would eat - the mixed Lamb or Surtido de borrego translated to an assortment of sheep. It was a delicious sweet meat. The one on the left - the smaller portion I loved too and it is Pancita translated to "tummy" you know what that consists of - the gut. We were lucky to have Allan eat at the same table with us when he saw that.
Back home the men are still scraping, pounding and measuring for proper depth of the concrete mixture to be put on the roof.
Allan has been installing a security camera system this week too.
This will be of interest to some of you among our viewers that know anything about electricity. The power meters are on the street of this rental unit - a total of 15 meters and main switches.
A closer photo of the wires above the meters are live wires exposed! They certainly do things different here. Now I would have walked past and never noticed any of this.
We met with friends Vic and Jayne, in Cancun for lunch one day - haven't seen them since last year.
The time spent with them was great - always nice to see them and to share and catch up on the happenings of our lives since the last visit.
Back home the men are still working.
This will give you an idea of the pattern, the surface it is not finished yet, more work to be done.
Another section being done - first they have to scrape all of the old material off the roof and get down to the original cement then the roof is prepared with a variety of layers of different compounds - this gives you an idea of the work being done.
It has been a long week for the workers in that hot sun
all day, every day. They start at 7 in the morning as mentioned before and work until at least 6 in the evening or longer. One night they worked past 9 and another until ll pm. For us periodically we have been without propane, electricity, water and light during the day because the windows have been covered to protect them from the dust and water off the roof.
The neighbours with children have not been extremely happy with the noise at their bed time either.
