February 19 - 25th 2017

Welcome !

We had friends come to visit for drinks and appetizers one afternoon - this is Bernadette and Bob from Quebec

and Lew and Gloria from Vermont, both couples we have met here in Puerto Morelos and have know for many years.

We always enjoy meeting up with them each year.

Our curious cat joined us too, he is the one who comes
by to check on us the most often of any in the clowder.

I really am happier that I look - it was a wonderful day. I am so seldom on that side of the camera I am not sure how to pose.

We were off to Cancun awaiting the ADO bus when a little fire broke out in a pile of garbage next to the public walkway under the overpass here at Puerto Morelos. One policeman calls over another police man to assist in the investigation.

One of the officers makes a phone call, a few minutes later a motor bike rides up to the scene,

and off jumped a paramedic! He also assessed the scene with the still present police officers.

They all leave, a few minutes later the paramedic comes back with a bucket of water, douses the flames and puts and end to the smoldering garbage.

One police officer goes back to directing traffic and the other helps with the second bucket of water. All ends well, there are no casualties and the fire is quickly... well,  doused.

We have been infested with ants this year.
This army took up residence on a shelf in our patio.
A bit of food waste was left in the garbage can  on a lower shelf  over night (big mistake). You can see their trail from the garbage can, up the wall to the shelf where they laid their eggs.

This is a closer picture of their nest. We placed ant bait on the nest and later sprayed with an ant spray that is to last 6 months. It will be wonderful if it really lasts that long. We have used the treatments in other areas of the house and outside with good results. Too bad we won't be here in 6 months to test their product guarantee.

A good friend from back home celebrated her 60th birthday this week. We toasted her at lunch,

had our Cancun taxi drivers give her the big thumbs up,

and we toasted again with a night cap. We had a wonderful day and hope our friend Brenda did too.

The doughnut people came by again with their delicious doughnuts. We are really going to miss these when we return home.

We were graced with another visit with friends this week. This is Louise with the taxi driver

who brought Denise and Robbie to Puerto Morelos
for part of the day. They were staying at an All - Inclusive close to Playa dell Carmen.

Looks like Robbie and Gaston are read to sing - but no guitar, darn it!

Howard checking out the internet while

dinner is cooking on the BBQ. The cooker cooks in both propane and charcoal - we use is often and really enjoy the charcoal flavour.

Another dental appointment with Dani, here are Kris, Dani, Dr. Gene and the hygienist. Dani is in great hands getting the best of treatment by a team of 3 who really care for her.

Musicians playing outside our restaurant one
evening during dinner.

On the weekend they have volunteers cleaning the
streets and painting the toupes (speed bumps) and curbs. The town is looking beautiful these days.

Dani and Kris came by our casa for a
visit - another surprise visit.

We tried out this restaurant this week - just new, they were setting it up last year before we went home.

"Pescaderia Las Cabrillas" - delicious food
with reasonable prices.

You can also purchase your fish from them and
take it home to prepare.

Shrimp with a garlic sauce was my choice,

Allan chose his  fish from the chilled bin of fresh fish, they pan fried it to perfection. The total cost for this meal was 230. pesos which included 4 cervesas. You won't purchase  this for that price on the beach side of Puerto Morelos. I would have to say it is one of the hidden gems in the Colonia.

I am sure you will recognize this tree hanging over our security wall in the back patio. Not only does it bring us the beauty of its flowers and fruit it also brings... (click on the website address for more information and bird sounds)

the  Rainbow - Keel Billed Toucan  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKjN2V_U08c

Yucatan Jay    - seems they are known for their beauty as I can not find their song on the net.

Hooded Orange Oriole

Mourning Dove

It has been another interesting week - especially so with all of our human and bird visitors - oh yes, and don't let me forget the ants.

Looking forward to this following week's experiences, so until  the end of this week, take care, and  remember....
