Monday October 6, 2014

This is our first day at Green Turtle Bay Marina and Resort

After our showers and the laundry was done, we took a walk about the marina and the neighbouring 1880 historic settlement of Grand River.

The autumn decorations are beautiful

The Ross family cemetery - death dates are in the late 1800's.

I love this sign - it wasn't for sale or I may have bought it for the Little Shoppe Around The Corner.

This shop (Sugar and Spice) was one of many shops Mary Lynn and I stopped at. We thought it strange there seemed to be no one else in the store but us, as we wondered from room to room we found a man sitting on a small sofa and sleeping so we quickly turned and tip toed out. Mary Lynn was disappointed because she saw some candy she would have purchased had there been a store clerk to assist her - well one that was awake that is.

The four of us had lunch at Patti's Settlement Restaurant. The food was delicious - there was so much of it we skipped dinner because none of us had room for anything more.

Each of the dining rooms were decorated in theme
- ours was done in the traditional colours of Christmas

Perhaps one reason we were so stuffed after our lunch was because we started the meal with the Colossal Onion (deep fried) and ended it with dessertMy main course was cat fish - oh my it was tasty.

This dining room was decorated in white Christmas Theme.

The Pink Tractor is a women's clothing store.

           I love these chair designs.

The Wedding Chapel

A Thanksgiving Turkey??

When Mary Lynn and I returned
Allan and Greg were washing the Fracas.

Miss Patti's homemade bread.

Sunday October 5, 2014

This morning we left Cuba Tow Head at about 7:45, the day started out to be somewhat cloudy and a cool 43 degrees F. It did warm up later in the day thankfully.

The early morning clouds made for  great sunrise photos.

Today we left the Ohio River and  headed up the Cumberland River to Green Turtle Marina and Resort.

More shoreline sites.

An industrial dry dock being transported up the river.

The balance of the days trip was very quiet and relaxing, very little traffic which was a pleasant change.

A limestone quarry

This is the Barkley Lock, our last lock before Green Turtle at Grand Rivers Ky where the Fracas will be docked for a few days.

Fishermen fishing by the locks

Water swirls caused for the incoming water in the lock.

Once through the lock we fast approached
the Green Turtle Bay Marina.

Wow, wouldn't it be nice to spend a day on this one!

Our first stop was a pump out - much needed after 7 days on the water.
