Today we went to the "Sunday Jungle Market" in the Colonia of Puerto Morelos. This is a must see if you are here on a Sunday. For sale they have original handmade crafts made by local women, fabulous Mayan food which is prepared by the women and their families. The food is delicious and safe to eat! Along with their home made crafts and food they also provide a pre-hispanic Mayan show and dance. A lady by the name of "Sandra" has inspired and worked with these Mayan women to hold on to their culture - and in doing so has provided us (tourists) with at opportunity to enjoy some of that tradition and culture. Today there were at least 80 people in attendance enjoying the presentation.
The Collective bus picked us up in front of the Mayan Market at 10:00 this morning and took us to the Jungle Market. It was back again to pick us up after the show by 1:00 and had us delivered to the town square in Puerto Morelos by 1:10 this afternoon. The cost was 5 pesos per person each way. You can also take a taxi if you do not have your own method of transportation.
The last time we attended this event was in 2008, today's performance as much if not more enjoyable. Sandra has done a great job with these ladies and their children . You can see from the true expressions on their faces how much the performers enjoy themselves during the production.
Great family entertainment!!
I have not put anything in writing under the pictures because they are pretty self explanatory.
