Happy New Year from Casa Pura Vida 2017!

The New Year was quiet, just the two of us and thawed leftovers from Christmas dinner. Leftovers always taste better.

So nice to take a walk about and see flowers blooming. It makes it difficult to think of the weather those of you back home are dealing with

I love this picture on the back of some
of the local collectivo buses

Howard and Theresa arrived on Tuesday January 3rd. They are with us until we go home on March 7th.

This was lunch at La Panza es Primo,
one of our favourite places to eat.

Does Allan have 2 Sol cerveza lined up there?

My favourite, favourite here is the Empanada Narcas! Chicken empanada done with a spinach sauce - to die for! And so filling!

A fisherman tending to his nets.

Sargassm, (sea grass) lining up on the shore

In this picture you can see the sargassm floating on the top of the water. Last year there was an abundance of it coming in which caused a problem with odour and had to be hauled away in truck loads.

For tourism sargassum is a bad thing because it is unsightly and has a sulfur smell, but environmentally it is very friendly - it mixes with the sand and helps hold the sand in place during high winds and storms preventing it from being washed back out to the sea. Having it hauled away isn't a totally negative move either, it is taken to the jungle and let it compost.

Our friend Abraham and his boss Jerry, have been working on this major reno project - after one year it is almost at its completion. The building is at the end of Rafael E. Melgar by the international port and will house apartments for rent along with a commercial space on the ground floor.

Iguanas monitor the activities in the community.

This is our electrician "Teo", he was needed to replace a electrical breaker which was old and had  served us well.

Ava - we have been back to Ole's for more stuffed potatoes!

The Christmas decorations have served their purpose for this Christmas season and will be taken down soon

During our walk in the park we came upon a family of boys, they took great enjoyment from my give away puppets and stickers.

Allan and Howard are great grounds keepers and pool maintenance men.

Howard preparing a small spot for planting.

I have not found the name of this plant yet but  it came with the house and has survived the past year very well.

Grocery shopping is a daily event which gives us a one hour walk and the pleasure of meeting and mixing with the locals.

Allan spied this butterfly on the side of our house in the shade and climbed the ladder for this photo.

This may be the tropical mocking bird.

Allan always finds someone he can help. These ladies were moving things from the ground level up the the second story.

You may have heard of the protests against the increased fuel pricing here in Mexico and the many commercial buildings  being targeted with vandalism as method of voice.  To help prevent damage to the entrances many commercial operators are placing pallets and other items of size and weight in from of their glass doors and windows. Chedraui here in Puerto Morelos is taking these same precautions.

This is one of the local fruit stands, they have great produce and reasonable prices.

This sign displays the different kinds of fruit juices carried at this store and their prices.

Dinner out at the red chair restaurant.

"There was a crooked man,"

There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile,
He found a crooked sixpence against a crooked stile;
He bought a crooked cat which caught a crooked mouse,
And they all lived together in a little crooked house.

This is one of the local butcher we buy meat from. He is very precise with that long bladed knife.

This piece of meat is 3 times the length is started out to be and you can almost see through it!

This was the pile one of our chicken dinners came from, they are whole with head, feet and giblets. You decide what you don't want (if you are not Mexican) and they throw it into a pile for someone else to purchase.

Notice how yellow the bird is - must be the food it was fed.

Howard is the chef appointed to cook that delicious bird.

The new bar fridge! A must in the pool patio! The one we had last year came with the house and served us well but this year it gave up. A trip to Playa del Carmen and 7 stores visited before we found one!  It must be a popular item as all stores were sold out except for Sam's Club.

The end of another week. When I started this post I didn't think I had much to post- Howard and Theresa are low key compared to the previous visitors we have had this  year. LOL!  Howard and Theresa have been here before and know their way around so we put them on a long leash this year.

We are all enjoying our time here together again this year and the time is going fast. So we will see if we can slow this week down some!
