Feb 19, 2013

Our beach walk didn't happen this morning we slept in purposefully to be rested for the arrival of the kids. With today's technology we are able to watch their flight as it makes its way from Toronto to Cancun. Amazing, isn't it?   http://flightaware.com/live/flight/ACA1254. So with watching flight tracker, updating the blog and getting ready for the day that is taking up our morning.

Weather has changed for the better today - no wind, much warmer - that North wind is a beast - even here. It is clouded over with  a promise of sunshine from the weather website -modern technology - no weather man anymore. We are here long enough that the weather conditions don't affect us one way or the other, but when people are coming for only one week you pray for good weather.

Allan brought T-shirts to give to the firefighters of Puerto Morelos, we have made arrangements to meet with a Fire Dept. Captain from Cancun this morning to give him the T-shirts.  It appears there is presently no fire department here in Puerto Morelos, however the community with the help of Fire Fighters in Cancun is attempting to organize one. There are a group of Firefighters from Cancun who come to Puerto Morelos on a 24 hour basis to provide fire service to the community of Puerto Morelos, the colonia and properties along the highway between here and Cancun. They  not only provide fire services but they are also a part the emergency tiered response system

We are to meet the Firefighters at 10 a.m. - but this is Mexico - it could happen anytime today or even tomorrow. During the wait I snapped some pics.

This is a restaurant being relocated - the building on the right, behind the cars is the old restaurant, the part with the blue tarp and painted cement blocks is the new restaurant. Friends of ours. Juan and his wife Betty, own and operate the restaurant. Juan has been very helpful to us in setting up visits between us and our sponsored school children, he and our a mutual friend Kris, accompanies us on the visits- they both act as our translators. An amazing pair - they have been extremely helpful to us.

At about 11:30 the firefighters arrived, they had a job to do which caused their delay.
The fellow on Allan's left is the Captain of the Unit, Benito Ale Jandro Hernandez, the firefighters are Juan Carlos Canyl and Teofilo Suarez Azucta.

There was an exchange of shirts - Allan give them T's with "Darch"  (emergency services equipment supplier) insignia on some and the Assiginack Fire Dept. name on others - All had "Firefighter - Puerto Morelos" on the back. Captain Hernandez gave Allan a Jacket and two long sleeved T-shirts from Cancun Fire Department.

Then there was the exchange of belts - each with their own fire dept. belt buckle. This was so funny, Allan's belt only went part way around Captain Hernandez's waist while his went round Allan's 1 and 3/4 times. All of the men laughed.

Here they all stand in front on the fire truck that presently provides service to the community of Puerto Morelos, the colonia and properties between here and Cancun.

This is our landlady and her beautiful daughter

The kids arrive shortly after 2 o'clock

We all took a walk up the beach and stopped at Unico for a refreshment. Leigh and I sat on a two person bench to have our drinks and the bench collapsed. Oh, were we a spectacle - everyone laughed.

They certainly are excited - they want to do everything first! If that makes sense.

We are dinner at La Panza es Primero (the stomach is first)

I found some children in the park to play with - I used my puppets and my Spanish lessons.
 We had a great time.

This little one did not want anything to do with me. Her mother apologized for the little girls reaction. She did look tired though so perhaps she was not feeling too well.

Oh, Oh, the blossoms didn't last long enough for the kids to see their natural beauty.

It is the end of another wonderful day in Puerto Morelos.
The kids are tired, 8 p.m. and they are all in bed.

Night All!
