January 22 to Feb 4th. 2017

Health update - I am taking longer than I expected to recuperate - still on all meds except the antibiotic, have no appetite,  food has no taste, sense of smell is off and I get tired very easily. I just feel like Yuk!

Things happen here much the same as at home, I sent Allan (with a shopping list) to the store one day for a roast of beef I planned to cut up  to make beef stroganoff, he came back with all the fixings for beef stroganoff and a pork tenderloin instead of the beef roast! We ended up having pulled pork sandwiches for dinner - our kitchen chefs are very flexible. The beef stroganoff will have to wait for another night.

This is the decorating done to the walk through guest bedroom.

I made the curtains, the throw pillows
and the lamp shade cover.

We needed to have our roof resealed, this time it is covered with a  compound made from recycled rubber tires. It is a material which lasts much longer and you can freely walk on it without damaging the surface. I am sure we made the right decision as we have faith in our contractor who recommended we use this product.

Some people don't seem to properly maintain their roofs, in this case - a neighbour keeps his dog on the roof all day.  The photo below shows his area of free space complete with dog food and water and a bit of shade. If this man's roof leaks due to poor maintenance guess what is dripping down his walls on the inside.

Can you see this cat sunning itself on the circular stairway?

There was a bus accident just a short distance South of us which caused the deaths of two passengers and major injuries to the balance of the group. The bus was full of adults and children going to the official opening of a children's park at   Xcaret   http://www.xcaret.com/xcaret-plus.php?gclid=CPnu1ai6_tECFQwRgQod-IIOKg  Traffic was backed up North of us. Here you can see cars driving over the median to take a  detour.

This is just two of the new restaurants opened in
the Colonia this year. Lots of great places
to eat on this side of the highway for sure.

This young couple come by our Casa once or twice a week with the most delicious cream filled sugar coated doughnuts! We can not resist purchasing 4 each time they pass by. There is a young girl and her mother who come by also with their doughnuts which are the old time style with hole in the middle - they are quite delicious too.

Theresa and Howard are looking for a fixer upper.

We helped Howard and Theresa celebrate their 45th Wedding Anniversay on Jan 28th with a delicious
 dinner at El Campanario.

Later we passed through the park and spent some time
with the children and passed out stickers.

Then we stopped at La Sirena for drinks before going home. I treated myself to a (to die for) Frosted Eskimo on the Beach.

A few more changes/additions to the interior decorating of Casa Pura Vida. You may have seen the lamp shade covers in a past post, we have recently added a picture on a bare wall,

and small mirrors to another.

Allan is painting the mirror frame red - nice touch for sure.

We are having some upgrades done to the outside of our casa between March and our return in December. This is our contractor Carlos and his wife Laura. They took us to Cancun one day to choose materials for the upgrades.

We look forward to purchassing fresh oranges from the fruit truck to make fresh squeezed orange juice. The fresh juice makes great Mimosas.

This is a purchase being made by a local at the fruit market - these are banana leaves for making tamales.

Vic and Jayne Welton came by to make a visit with us. After lunch we took the Colectivo into the port to bar hop and have dinner.

Theresa had her favourite drink at Pelicanos. When they found out she was Canadian they immediately replaced the USA flag with a Canadian one.

This is my first day on the beach since Liz left on December 28th, today is February 1st!

Allan and Howard enjoying a cold one at
Paradise Beach Bar.

Theresa and Jayne catching up on things
since last years get together.

Every evening this bread van makes it run through town with its load of fresh baked breads, buns and other treats.

Another little fellow who likes Woody.

An unflattering photo of us having lunch at Ojo De Agua.

Ojo De Agua has made some remarkable changes to its restaurant and menu this year.

This day on the beach we had a young gymnast entertain us with her talents. Amazing how flexable some kids are.

Howard and Theresa helped us celebrate our 49th Wedding Anniversary on Feb 2nd (Ground Hogs Day) at a new restaurant on the Port side - "Restauante Bianco"

The three non-adventurous diners ate good old steak

while I had octopus!! It was very tasty even
without accurate taste buds. I will have to go
back and try it again when I get  back to myself.

For those of you who know the Colonia of Puerto Morelos, Ole's has opened a second restaurant just across from the bull fighting ring and on Calle Cedro.

Street scenes in the Colonia.

Here is the trinket truck with all kinds of household items one might need. Everything from baby bath tubs to fly swatters and all a reasonable prices. Could save you a trip to Cancun!

Allan and his favourite hardware assistant "Pinky", they write cute notes back and forth - his are in English and hers are in Spanish. They are having a great time learning each other's language.

New sidewalks are going being installed  here in the Colonia
on Zetine Gasca.

This could be your next BBQ - quite an ingenious  recycle
from a wheel rim and at a reasonable price.

Dogs taking a siesta in the hot afternoon.

This puts a complete visual on  "Dog Tired"," Lazy as a Dog", "Sleep Like A Dog" and so on.

Another interesting flower we found on our
walk about town. So many varieties.

Well, this is the end of this week's blog - hope you have enjoyed the catch up on what we are doing. Weather is just fantastic, we sure don't miss the snow.

So until next week, stay safe and keep smiling, it will make people wonder what you are up to. 😎
