It didn't take much for us to talk ourselves into another trip to the Isla Mujeres. We were up and headed out of town early.
Early enough to catch these ladies
watering their flowers.......
.......the birds finding food....
.......and a dog finding breakfast.
We arrived at the Playa Tortugas Maritime Terminal in time to catch the 9:30 a.m. ferry to the Island
Neither of these are the ferry
This fellow is still entertaining
The port if now familiar to us
The reason for our return is to explore the Island, something we regretted greatly not doing on our first visit a week ago. I took two separate pics of the map board to give an idea of the layout of the Island
To properly explore we rented a cart for the sum of 500 pesos for the day. Bob was the chauffeur.
Our first stop was the turtle farm which had
several other species of sea life as well
sea horses
conchs
sea urchin
octopus
the lion fish an invasive species as you will see on the attached
web site. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pterois
These two turtles were deformed when they hatched, both have an upright fold in their shell which caused their back legs to be directly out behind them instead of under their top shell as they should be.
These are normal shaped turtles, they must be fed often because they come right to you when you lean over the edge of the pool
You can faintly see Cancun in the distance
An iguana on guard in the parking lot
A type of Hereon
That is a fish, not a stick
A viewing park looking toward Cancun
cotton perhaps
a little Mexican cemetery
This shot interested me because of the possibly
seven different kinds of plant life with the ocean behind it
We returned the cart complete with emergency parking brake.
The brake would not hold when we parked on an incline so we were fortunate to find a rock to place at a wheel.
This gas station is unique - you have to
back in to get your tank filled
After taking our cart back we had lunch, did a walk about town and caught the ferry back to Cancun
Getting ice cream from the good old golden arches
- just like home!
It was another great day, we were all happy to have been able to go back and tour the Island - renting a cart is definitely the way to go. We would highly recommend it and we would do it again.
