Friday March 9, 2012

Allan was the last one awake this
morning  - it was after 7 o'clock!

We woke up to  this - SNOW!!!
Where did that come from???

Edith being the perfect hostess made
sure we had breakfast before we got
on the road shortly after 9:00 o'clock in the morning.

The trip home was uneventful thank goodness. The road was
clear except for approximately an hour's travel
north of Perry Sound where it  was snow
covered and slippery, causing traffic to be slow moving.

We were back in Manitowaning at 4:30 p.m.,
a total of 7 1/2 hours travelling time
with two stops, one for lunch and another for gas.

Debbie did a great job looking after the house and
our dog, Lady.  In the past Lady stayed in a kennel
when we would be away for long periods of time.
This time we decided to get someone to house/dog sit;
we were very fortunate to find Debbie.
I am sure Lady appreciated having Debbie here enabling
her to stay in her familiar surroundings while we were away.

We will be back to Puerto Morelos again, just
when I can not say at this time. Other travel
locations are beckoning to us, we just may go
elsewhere for a few years, but Puerto Morelos will
always be close to our hearts. We will certainly be returning!!

So until our next travel adventure "Hasta la vista Baby"!

Thursday March 8, 2012

Everyone had a good night's sleep and
was ready to head out by 9:00 a.m.

First stop "Tim Horton"s then we went to Hamilton to do
some shopping at European Textiles for fabric. http://www.europeantextiles.ca/products.html
I am having Edith make Quillows for my grandchildren. She has already made one for Logan, Brooklyn, Jeromy and Jessica. The fabric I picked out today is for Ava and Jed's Quillows.
The weather was above 0 with rain -
not bad for driving - no snow!!
Yesterday the weather was so sunny and warm
in Toronto that people were outside
wearing "T" shirts.
We arrived at Bob and Edith's at about
3 in the afternoon. Edith started unpacking
right away while Bob turned on the heat, water, etc.
to get the house back into a liveable state.

It didn't take long for the house to feel welcoming - it's surprising how heat can do that.

Later we went to Swiss Chalet in Owen Sound for dinner. When we returned to Bob and Edith's everyone was tired
and  eager to go to bed early.

Wednesday March 7, 2012

Damn it is Wednesday, the dreaded day!!!

The winds are still high but at least there is some
sunshine for us to enjoy before the dreaded
hour of 1 o'clock,  when Abey De Sol Travel
comes to pick us up for the airport.

Our last morning on the beach of Puerto Morelos
for this year is interesting. Never have we seen
the beach with such high water marks and
so much debris from the sea.

A scum of salt covers much of the washed up ocean weeds
Here is the rain coming in. Temperatures dropped
very quickly just before the rain reached us. We were very fortunate it didn't last long because we were a ways
from the shelter of our Casa.

Boats are anchored both fore and aft to
keep them secure during high waves

This picture shows the river like indentations made in the sand as the water from the high waves finds its way back to the sea.

These are the treasures from today's beach combing. The seed on the bottom left is a sea heart from the "monkey ladder" seed pods found in the tropical rain forest of Costa Rica

This is an accident waiting for a time to happen!! When we came in off the beach our feet were covered in sand. The usual practice has been to walk to our Casa and hose off  there, this time we  saw the tap and one of us said  "Oh, there is a tap. I wonder if it is hooked up to the water?" Sooo, we walked over toward the tap thinking we would rinse off our feet and put our shoes on. Keep in mind it had just rained and the ground was wet. Allan was the closest to the lamp post, when he was about 2 feet from it he got an electric shock! It was a shock similar to that one gets from an electric fence.

At the time there was no one around to report to, however
we did tell some other people that were coming in off the beach to stay back from the lamp post.

Allan went back later and found a workman who
he was able to explain the incident too. Hopefully the
necessary repairs have been done and no one gets injured.

One last walk about town before brunch.
Things are much the same as they have been
during the last few days of bad weather

Since the men are not able to get out on the water due to high winds some are catching up on their "Honey Do Lists". This man is washing windows! I wonder what tactic his honey uses?

Here are children playing in the school
yard of the town's elementary school

This picture shows how the sand has blown up
from the beach on to the streets. We think
shovelling snow is a pain, at least if you leave it
long enough it will melt. Mexico does have
hot weather but not hot enough to melt the sand.
Good old elbow grease and Mexican
determination is the only thing that will get rid of it.

CHILITOS AGAIN!!! We love their breakfast/brunch!
This is always our final eating place in Puerto Morelos
before we leave to head back to Canada.
The manager of Chilitos is fluent in both the Spanish and English languages. He and his family are very friendly, competent people. Their restaurant is noticeably
clean, the food is delicious, the service is
excellent and the prices are reasonable.

This picture is of the fruits of the Palm tree
growing in the garden at Casa De Los Viajeros.

Once at the airport, Edith looks happy to be heading home - she certainly is because she wants to get her souvenirs unpacked
and placed in her house.
Bob is just happy to be at the airport on time.

Allan - well I'm not so sure.
These places sure do take full advantage
of their captive audience.

Bubba Gump beer is about $10.00 Cdn for a 16 ounce glass and Johny Rockets is getting $13.00 Cdn for a hamburger and fries. One has to feel sorry for travelling families!

We are headed to gate "A-1" for a 3:50 p.m. departure  to arrive in Toronto at 8:44 p.m.- this was the information on our tickets.  As you can see in the above photo the departure time on the flight information board is set at 16:33 or 4:33,
a delay of 43 minutes.

Now I didn't want to leave Mexico, (the little town of Puerto Morelos kind'a grows on you), but I didn't want to spend extra time at the airport either.

As those of  you caught in the same type of situation
know, we have no other choice at this point.
You make the best of a bad situation - I had a good book.
Bob happened to go for a walk and came back with information that we were to be a loading gate "B13"! Departure time still set for 4:33. It is a good thing he's observant because we had gathered with other passengers on the same flight at  gate
"A1" as we had been instructed on our ticket information!
We all scurried off to  Gate "B13", wait a few minutes and the departure time changes to 4:43 - a further delay of 10 minutes making it a total of  53 minutes.
The departure time changes a couple more times
and at last it shows departure time 17:03 or
3 minutes after 5 - now we delayed an additional
20 minutes - total 73 minutes (1 hour and 13 minutes)
Then all of a sudden the screen showes this shot -
awe, what does this mean????

It was a good sign, we were bussed to the aircraft and took off for Toronto at 3 minutes after 5 as indicated on the last information we saw on the screen regarding the flight.

This is a shot of the moon coming up over the Yucatan,
the glare in the bottom right is a reflection from the
setting sun on the other side of the plane.

We arrived at the Toronto airport at 10:00 in the evening following a good flight. By the time we retrieved our luggage, caught the shuttle to our hotel, got the car and settled into our room it was past 11:00 p.m. This is what was left of the pizza we ordered after that. One would think we should have had  nightmares after eating that amount of pizza. We didn't though, we slept contentedly, like exhausted kittens with full tummies.
