February 16th Day 13

Today was a quiet day again, our friends came into Puerto Morelos from their resort the El Dorado Royale and we spent most of the day together. They were quite impressed with the town and what it had to offer its tourists and residents.

They first joined us for coffee at the Amancia's Cafe on the corner by the square then we showed them our accomodations at the Cabanas Puerto Morelos. They enjoyed the view from our balcony both front and back, they loved the gardens and pool on the property, the perfect setting was completed with a nice show of wild birds while they were here. Every item close to their hearts was on display - they left very happy and relaxed.

We had a lovely lunch at the Pelicanos, they then strolled through the shops before leaving late in the afternoon to go back to the resort.

Later in the evening Allan and I had dinner at David Lau's - all I can say is "Delicious" but then anything we have had to eat here at every restraunt we've visited has been great! One would think somewhere in the centre of town there is one huge kitchen that cooks for all the restraunts. I just don't understand how 20 plus restraunts in one small town can each provide such excellent tasting food, that doesn't happen back home.

Today's pics of interest

This is a photo of my sand flea bites - they are as itchey as the look too!

These Mexican gentlemen were playing and singing Mexican songs at the Pelicanos today

Just me and a palm tree

We are really enjoying ourselves here, so much so that
we are looking at staying a little longer next year

Until tomorrow,
Take Care!

February 15th - Day 12

This morning we caught a local bus to Playa Del Carman, it was our first trip into Playa using the local busing system so we were a little concerned at first that we may not end up where we wanted to go. We were soon put at eaze - a Mexcican fellow on the bus knew where he was going and he sort of looked after us. The people are very friendly and even if they can not speak English they do their best to understand us and help when they can. Reminds me of the Mantioulin Island.

The purpose of going into Playa was to meet friends who are staying this week at El Dorado Royale . Our favourite all inclusive resort!

Once in Playa I immediately went to a pharmacy looking for a cream to put on a rash I have on my arms and legs. I was told it is sand fly bites, let me tell you they are worse than mosquito bites! They tell me not to scratch because it makes them worse - how do you not scratch an itch that will not stop?? I did purchase some cream that helps thank goodness!

We met our friends at the Tequila Barrel, had a few cerveza and lunch, then did some shopping before heading back to Puerto Morelos. We had a lovely visit and caught up on lots of news from them and they from us.
The vine on this hotel in Playa caught my eye - it looks so nice.
This is the view from one of the windows at the bus station in Playa, quite a buzy place!

When we returned to Puerto Morelos we stopped at Cantina Habanero's for a delicious pizza and cervaza, we visited with members of Frank's Forum and came back to our apartment to turn in early from a long day.
The people here in Puerto Morelos are working very hard to keep their small fishing village from becoming the city Playa Del Carman has become in recent years. I wish them every sucess in their efforts. It is so nice to be able to walk down the streets and see the locals mixing with the tourists on a small town level. Everyone bids you the time of day and smiles - in Playa no one speaks unless they are wanting to sell you something. It is so unique here - I can't help but wonder if our presence (that of the tourist in general) is ruining their way of life in many ways. Several non Mexican residents say Mexico is a 3rd world country growing in leaps and bounds without supportive infastructure. I like many others will keep coming back until they close the boarder to us which will never happen in our day - I can only hope their politicians will soon catch up to modern day infastructure contols.
Bye until tomorrow,
Anne
