Sunday February 7, 2016

Wow - another week has flew by and so quickly too!

We have eaten well,

and so has the cat.

We  kept abreast of the news back home,

and shared  our news with each other later in the day.

This week we made a few day trips, the first

was a visit to Crococoon Zoo which is just a short taxi ride north of here.

This little fellow tried to eat the beads on Theresa's top.

These old birds are into a heavy romance - he on the left- is loose in the relationship but she on the right - is glued tight to him - they say she is very jealous of him.

You can see why she is jealous of him - he gives kisses to everyone!

We each took a turn at holding a little crocodile.

Theresa was a little timid at first about holding him but this experience softened her and she even touched a snake!!

A Komodo Dragon

A Mayan hairless dog. They have been here for years and have to be kept out of the  sun as they have no hair or other way to protect themselves against the damage of the sun's rays.

In this section of the zoo you get to walk among
the giant crocodiles.

The Spider Monkeys!! They are native to the area and are wild. We were not allowed to touch them of course but we were able to see them being fed by our guide.

This Mama holding her baby. He was too little to eat the food provided to them as he is still on breast milk.

Next we saw the white tail deer. One of our guides was really impressed with the pictures Howard had to show him of last fall's hunting pictures back home.

Turtles, turtles, ya, ya, ya!

The Mexican Racoon -" Coatimundi " or "Tejones"

Bathroom Break

We spent the rest of the day in the pool. Wow are we enjoying the pool during those hot days. One day it was 48 degrees C in the sun! Mmmmm  Mmmmmm!

We went out for dinner that evening to El Pesquero

to celebrate our 48th Wedding Anniversary.

After dinner we stopped by Abraham and Mary Ann's shop to visit with them and their children.

Little Miranda was really tired, they have just recently increased the children's school day by one hour and it has really taken its tole on her.

We had Louise and Gaston over for dinner one evening -

Howard was the cook.

Louise brought her prepared appetizers - Delicious!!

Chicken and Ribs was the highlight of dinner.

Foxy enjoyed the evening with us, but most of all the leftovers she got to take home with her. Foxy had a terrible accident, recently Gaston had her out for a walk, he let her off the leash and she got run over by a car. A trip to the vet showed she had no broken bones or internal injuries thankfully. She was upset for a few days and is still nursing her scrapes and bruises.

Here is a classic for you car enthusiasts -

It has been completely stripped of motor,
seats and everything else

A Volkswagen Karmann Ghia

We had lunch here in the Colonia one day and Theresa managed to get a green coke bottle - she made a wish. Do you remember those days?

Flowers and plants for the happy gardeners and those wishing for summer. Just a reminder - it is coming.

The Catholic Church in the Port has opened up a shop that sells icecream, yogurt and coffee,

This fellow is the master of the art and is he proud of himself and his creations.

A day-trip to Playa Del Carmen found Howard
snuggling up to Catrina.

There have been some changes made to the ferry terminal.

Senior Frogs hasn't changed.

These children are down hill sledding on a
skate board and having a hoot!

Nachos for lunch!!

I love the Mexican colours

Abraham has been adopted by this dog - she is a sweat heart - she will nudge your leg for a pet.

Gayle is starting his music career on the bongos

Theresa asked Abraham to do a finger painting for her. Again, he did a fantastic job.

Iguana wall ornaments on the pool wall.

Sunday we took in the Mayan Jungle Market. We had a light lunch then watched the dancing performance.

Before the show I was able to pass out a few puppets and stuffed animals.

Sandra opened the dance show with her usual commentary.

The costumes of the dancers are so brightly
coloured - right down to the shoes.

They enjoy what they do so much - their smiles are breath taking.

The little teddy bear came all the way from Knox Rummage Sale to dance in the show too.

Allan and Howard joined with other men
in the Chicken Dance.

Howard has that "What in the H--- am I doing here?" look on his face, while Allan swings with the music.

After the Mayan Market experience we went to the fruit stand in town for ingredients for homemade perogies!

Allan bought some eggs for breakfast, he had to saw the carton in half to make a top for the 1/2 flat of eggs so he could get them home without breaking them.

He filleted a White Margaret fish for dinner,

while Howard made a Sheppard's Pie for the freezer and dinner another night.

Theresa polished off a bottle of wine so she could use it as a rolling pin for her perogies (lol),

then she attempted to stand on a stool so she could reach the counter to work on the perogies.

And then she began to work!

She was a bit worried about the outcome of the finished perogies due to a difference in  the flour here, to her pleasant surprise they were perfect - see the thumbs up sign!

Dinner was delicious too!

Theresa does not like fish so she was treated extra special with leftover burgers from the night before.

Another enjoyable week in Paradise!
