Saturday February 13, 2016

This past week has been a cool one, some rain and high winds which meant very little beach time.  We did however use it to our best advantage.

Our neighbour's coconut palm is loaded with coconuts so we decided to try some.

Abraham demonstrated to us how to open them for the delicious milk and meat inside.

We all enjoyed our fresh coconuts.

Tuesday the 9th we did a day-trip to Isla Mujeres. To get there we took a small local transit van which seats 12 people from Puerto Morelos to the port in Cancun to meet the ferry to Isla Mujeres. We were on the road a very short time until the roadside stops had the van packed with 20 people - 5 of which were standing. There were 3 makeshift seats of milk crate size. The ride was a quick one - Allan said the speedometer was at 125 km's and sometimes higher!

Despite the seating conditions and the speed of the van we arrive safely and with some extra time before the ship sailed.

The following pictures were taken at Puerto Juarez prior to our departure.

Our crossing was a pleasant one .....

This was our mode of transportation for the day of sightseeing.

Isla Mujeres is a beautiful island

We visited the turtle farm

The island has a full harbour of pleasure crafts

This is of interest - it is an island made from plastic bottles by Richart Sowa - information on the island can be found at:

We had lunch at Oscar's - I love the chairs!

These ladies were heading into the village for Carnival festivities.

This is the park at the south-east end of the island

It was a cool day with a some sun and we found a snake curled up trying to keep warm in the flower garden.

The iguana were out too.

This side of the Island (facing North East) is very rugged and since it faces the open water it gets high waves.

We visited the cemetery

More party people heading into town for dancing in the streets.

We haven't been feeding the cats in our yard anymore. The black one in the corner is a female, the rest are males and they are all in heat! One night they got up on our roof - in our bathroom there is an opening for ventilation - they sat beside the vent and did their mating calls ALL NIGHT!. I was getting nasty looks from sleepless eyes in the morning and it wasn't from the cats.

This little female is getting in line  waiting her turn.

My Spanish Teacher Victor and his wife Mary Lou came for dinner one evening.

A minstrel who played while we had dinner one
 evening in the port.

One evening we were graced with a beautiful rainbow.

Vic and Jayne Welton stopped for an overnight visit while on their way back to Canada.

Fruits growing in our neighbours back yard.

Saturday evening's walk in the park brought us upon some pleasant entertainment

Mayan drummer with dancers

and a circus.

This draws to a close another week in Paradise!
