Sunday February 5, 2012

We decided to leave home at 5 in the morning, so to accomplish this feat we set one alarm before going to bed for 3:30 a.m. Thoughts were that we would get up and have some extra time before the magic hour, in the event we had to do something at the last minute we hadn’t planned on. I woke at 3 thinking the alarm should go off any minute – I dozed off and when it rang at 3:30 I am thinking we slept in by ½ hour, Allan says "we don’t need to get up this early", so he reset the alarm – for 4 o’clock.  There was an error somewhere; it rang again at 3:45! After all of this commotion who could sleep for another 15 minutes??? ??We both go up and started a new day.
Our departure time worked out well, by the time we got showered, dressed, packed the car and fed Lady we were on our way by 4:55!! 5 minutes early!!

The roads were somewhat slushy from Manitowaning to Birch Island. At 10 mile point we ran into fog patches and between the Little Current bridge and Birch Island we saw 10 deer. From Birch Island to Tara the trip was uneventful until we were just outside of Tara where we ran into a slight snow squall.
On our way to Tara we stopped first in Val Caron to wish Ava a happy birthday and visit with the rest of the family. She had some friends who spent the night - sounds like they had a great time at the sleep over. We next stopped  in Nottawa to meet with Liz Grear O’Leary to drop off humanitarian items for our trip to Cuba in April with Patch Adams. That is another story you will be filled in on later.
Once we arrived at Bob and Edith's we spent some time catching up since we last saw each other in October then went to Swiss Challet for dinner.

Ten mile point at about 5:15 a.m.
The Bridge at Little Current - why is it that we always get there when the light is red?
This is Liz - no she is not the minister, she just talks alot. She is the person I am doing the Patch Adams mission tour with in April if they have room for us.

She and the church ladies made this quilted picture of their church in Nottawa. The bricks on the bottom hold the names of familes within their congregation.

She and the ladies also make quilts,  this is a big money maker for their church
One of the many ski hills in Collingwood.
 Open water in Georgian Bay.
The weather reporters are already calling this the winter that never was.
A little snow squall we got into between Collingwood and Tara
Bob and Edith and Allan and I after a delicious dinner at the Swiss Chalet in Owen Sound
We all have a happy and satisfied look on our faces.
