Everyone was up early this morning, anxious to get to Isla Mujeres and the Dolphin Swim!!!
Jed and his Mom are not early risers - Ava on the other hand is like her Dad and Grandpa, she wants to get her day started early
We did some beach combing
All we found was a dead fish
She likes to make footprints in the sand - even comparing her size foot with someone else's.
The beach cleaner had been out so she walked on its path - pretending she was walking in the snow.
By 8 a.m. we were on our way to Isla Mujeres, first we caught the little local bus - "the collectivo" and rode on it to the highway where we were to catch the larger "ADO" to Cancun.
Well, that didn't happen - there is a greater power at work - we got out of the little bus and walked across the road, another little bus the same size that was running from Play del Carmon to Cancun - the driver and the passenger in front were in charge. The passenger jumper out of the van and said "Are you going to Cancun" Turns out he is a local from Puerto Morelos and he spoke proper English. Allan told him what were were up to so he said "We will take you". We all climbed aboard joining other passengers on the ride into Cancun. After we were settled Allan asked how much for all of us to make this trip. The passenger and driver discussed the price, they charged us 120 pesos - less than $2.00 each to make the 40 minute drive. They took us right to the pier where we caught the ferry to Isla Mujeres!
These fellows saved us so much in money and time - normally we would have waited for the next ADO, it would have taken us to the bus depot in Cancun where we would have needed 2 taxis to take us to the pier. I can not speak for all of Mexico, but I can say this part as we have seen and experienced it is great. The people are very friendly and try to be most accommodating. Now having said that I am sure there are a number of evil doers here as in any place and you do have to keep an eye, ear and gut attuned to what is happening around you. Just like home.
It was a great day for all - once
we got to the pier it was only a short wait until
we were on the ferry for our 20 or so minutes to the Isla.
This picture is dark and does not show the colour of this vessel. It is purple and green, Ava and Jed said it was the mystery machine from Scooby Doo.
We had our own musician who sang and entertained on both crossings
Jed was so happy - we rented two golf carts for the day to travel the Isla
Our first stop was at the Turtle Farm. That was a great experience, they got to hold and touch several of the live exhibits
The creature in the centre is actually a fish!
A Conk in the shell
Jed holding a little turtle
Can't you tell that he is having a great time!
This was the ultimate experience of the day. A dream come true for the both of them.
The price of pics was terribly expensive $25.00 each -that is why there are only 2
Is she tired or what? It was quite and experience for all of us. We were in the water for at least 1 hour playing with the dolphins, even Allan and I enjoyed it.
Following the dolphin experience we took a quick tour of the island for sightseeing.
Then we headed back to Cancun for the bus trip home
Once back at the Cancun Pier we caught a van taxi, the driver offered to take us all the way to Puerto Morlos for $55. USD - Jed tried to haggle him down to 45 but the driver's price was firm at 55.Considering there were 6 of us we accepted the ride for his asking price which brought us back - right to our front door.
Everyone was so tired when we arrived back at our cabanas' at about 5 that we brought in pizza for dinner and went to bed early.
It was a great day, Clinton and Leigh saw enough of Isla Mujeres to peak their interest, they may be back.
Night All!!
