Tues Feb 28, 2012

Today was another hot day in Puerto Morelos
 but I am not complaining!!!!

An early morning walk out to the Colonia brought along with it many interesting sightings

This is a termite nest, Allan is standing beside it to give you a better perspective on its size

A close up shows its structure

The construction of the sidewalk from Puerto Morelos to the highway is still underway

Notice its manual labour and square mouth shovels
"Here is the man" in that attractive  fringed tool belt and strong like bull! He lifted this piece of steel and carried it a great distance. Mmmmmmm!

lunch bags hanging in trees on the shady side of the road

Many  workers ride their bikes to the job site

More lunches

This is the car wash station located at the Puerto Morelos/Highway intersection .It must be busy this year because of  all the dust from construction on vehicles

Advertising for luxury beachfront residences/timeshares is every where  you turn. A lifestyle that will never be financially available to the local Mexican residents here. I wonder what the children must think when they look at these signs.

This style of home is way beyond the expectations of most

Bob and Edith joined us for breakfast
at this little restaurant in the Colonia

 This is their menu

This mother and daughter are waiting for their order

These are corn husks used to wrap and
cook a type of tamale

This and the few pics following are scenes
from the market we visited today

Price 10 pesos for a package of fruit - just under $1.00 Cdn

This afternoon the beach is very quiet -
we almost have it to ourselves

Like I said - it is quiet - not like Sundays

Our view this evening from Las Palmer's restaurant where we had dinner again. We love the atmosphere, staff and food here

Notice the jackets on these men - while we are dressed in shorts and cool tops.  It is hard for me to remember this is their winter. We are lucky to have  2 or 3 days in the hottest time of our summer with these high temperatures.

This is not a sunset or a UFO - it is one of the many cruise ships that go by.  Even with a tripod it would have been blurred because it was moving at quite a clip.
