February 19, 2010

The puzzle got completed finally after 3 weeks -
it was only 500 pieces, 500 difficult pieces!
Entertainment at the square during the evening

Many people sat back relaxing as they enjoyed the music

Everyone enjoyed the wonderful sounds from the participants

Art and crafts were on sale throughout the square

A food stand served up delicious snacks

One of the evenings musicians

This live band was very pleasant to listen to

A beautiful voice

Great talent

To have the gift, what a blessing!!

Wonderful to hear
He"s got the beat!

We stopped at Cantin Habanaro for the regular Friday Night Meet and Greet. We found a chair for Edith.

Jan was singing at Cantina Habanaros - Ed gets many great preformers to come into his establishment on a regular basis. It is a good idea to come early if you want a seat or it is standing room only.

Today has been a somewhat quiet day. It started out with a little jaunt to the centre of town for a few groceries, then it started to sprinkle rain. We stopped at Cantina Habanero for coffee then trudged on back to our casa.

There is not much happening here as you may have guessed. The others are reading while I update the blog. Edith took a nap - still hasn't mentioned playing cards - ya think she forgot?? I won't mention it if no one else does.

There is an other event going on at the square later this evening - we are looking forward to it, hopefully is doesn't get rained out.

Tomorrow we are off the Coba Ruins, we are looking forward to that. It will be a first time visit for us.

So, ttyl (talk to you later)- in Spanish I think it is "cauma" charla a usted mas adelante

We saw some soldiers in town this morning while we were out shopping

A peek of the roof top remains from the fire

Burned thatch being removed from the fire site today

Workers were busy cleaning up after last evening's fire

Debris from the fire

Another view of the fire scene from the street

Remaining framework of the roof structure

Allan was master chef for dinner last night - we purchased pizza from "Pizza Del Carmen" in the Colonia yesterday - we only had to warm it up ----mmmmm Good! We ordered the supreme and the Hawaiian when we were there earlier in the day- both were excellent!

A view of the structural fire
A glimpse of the fire prior to the Fire Department's arrival

About a half hour after the musical performance started we noticed smoke rising from a location close by. Vacationing Fire Chief Elliott responded on foot to see if there was need for assistance. Two young people barely escaped with their lives when flames erupted within their thatched roof accommodation. One of the two suffered burns to various parts of his body and was later transported to hospital. No word yet today as to how he is doing. The local fire department responded and soon had the fire under control preventing damage to nearby homes and their occupants.

These kids and other musicians did a great job. I forgot to take insect repellent - the mosquitoes made us leave before the event was over . This will not be the case next year!

One of the talented participants

After returning from the Colonia we attended the 6th Annual Music Festival and the Elementary School here in town

This photo was taken out at the intersection coming in off the main highway into Puerto Morelos. A nice addition and smooths the flow of traffic. It is much safer for pedestrian traffic crossing to and from the Colonia than last year.

These roosters were taking a break in the heat of the day under a cool shade tree

Billy goat says Hola! He was a very chatty goat too.

There are several pigeons in these roof top pens

More fossils!!

Now you can see why he was so interested in the stone pile - look at the fossils!!
This little place is for rent in the colonia, I tried to talk Allan into making a deal but he was too interested in the stone pile next door

This is one smart cat - he has found a high place to sit and keep a lookout on the dog population

Looks like a fun place to play

Makes one wish they were a kid again

Paintings of many cartoon characters decorate the outside walls

Jardin de Ninos - in my online translator means children's garden - when I find out more I will provide an update.

These pictures were taken through the gates, the entrance is unique - they have used so much colour throughout the play area

The art work is phenomenal - someone has a lot of talent and love for their work

During our walk throughout the Colonia yesterday we came across this building - not sure yet what it is but look like a children's daycare or school

We thought we found a dew worm - silly Canadians! It has lots and lots of legs - giant millipede perhaps.

Allan snuck up on me while I was doing another blog update

February 17, 2010

I hope you are having as much trouble as I am in getting this sorted out. You have to go to the end of the entry to start at the beginning. ?????? go figure. It is backwards and I still can not get used to it!
We are having a great time here again this year and we are planning on a return visit again next year - 'FEBRUARY 2011! Nothing has been confirmed just yet but we are working on it.
Allan, I am not sure what is happening here
To those of you who know him - you tell me

Bob enjoying his fish dinner

Edith with her pre-dinner drink; notice she has class - she is holding that pinky up high for you to notice

The Chef and Chef's Assistant at La Fragata
- they served up an awesome meal.

Our waiter at La Fragata. very knowledgeable, speaks great English and has a great sense of humour

and page 3 of their menu - remember, click your mouse on the picture for an enlargement

Menu page 2

Page one of their menu

In the evening we went to La Fragata for dinner -
this was a first to this restaurant which is above the plaza
Today we went to the primary school in the colonia and met with the 10 year old student we are sponsoring for education. He was happy to meet us and we were very happy to meet him as well.

This is a class picture of the students in our sponsored child's class - some things are same old, same old - when the person taking the photo counted down for smiles they all said "Whiskey" in unison - who would have thought?

Here is me, happy we are out of the apartment and thinking of ways to keep Edith busy so we don't have to play cards. You know she hasn't
mentioned cards since the day we came - you think she has forgotten she has 2 decks with her??

Edith, happy that we stopped for refreshments and waiting to sink her teeth into the heated breakfast dessert. Hoping Bob will share with her instead of the dog.

Allan trying to look like he is enjoying having his picture taken for the umpteenth time.

Bob in deep thought over an early morning highly potent coffee
The neighbourhood dog waiting for a treat - he will actually bark letting you know he is waiting for something to eat. Lady would have been so jealous!

The square to the North East

Here we are facing South from Cafe de Amancia

A view from a corner at the town square facing North this morning around 10.00 a.m.

such talent!

Gosh, I wish I had been give the gift of art and music
- I don't even have rhythm

Here we are on Wednesday - hump day at home back home (middle of the week), some know it as Expositor Day and others have names I could not put in print. Here in Puerto Morelos it is another quiet day in the Mexican sun. No rush, no worries!! We have eleven days left before you know what!
