Friday24, 2012

Along with temperatures in the mid to higher 30 's degrees C we have been having very high winds. The fishing boats are not allowed to leave shore and some people are taking shelter from the sand storms on the beach today.

The wharf men, fishermen and ocean tour guides  waiting for the winds to go down so they can get back to what they do best.

Something must be happening in the park tonight, we see cleaning of debris from the winds and the stage being set up.

The sewage lines are being installed throughout the town, without rain everything is so dry. Dust is every where and on every thing. I feel bad for anyone visiting in Puerto Morelos for their very first time. The appearance of this year's Puerto Morelos is not the true Puerto Morelos.

I don't know how these people can work in this heat!!! To think their summers come with only higher temperatures.

Later in the morning we decided to make a trip in to Play del Carmen for lunch. This time we took a smaller bus.

Spray paint art on Playa's 5th Ave

Edith fell in love with this Mexican frog;
you have to admit he is cute

I love the colours

This is a little church on 5th Ave.

This little one is enjoying relaxation and people watching

More of what we women love!

h
This is Edith's favourite lunch dish while in Playa, it is mixed fruit with lime sherbet washed down with cerveza.

More of those great Mexican colours and designs

We caught a bigger bus back to |Puerto Morelos

Street scenes throughout Playa

If you look close this is a fire station,
you can see a white fire truck on the roof.

When cerveza is served in a mug similar to this, one would think perhaps the establishment may not be licensed to serve it.

Edith found a sea bean on the beach; little did she know at the time that very few sea beans are found in this area. She had this man make it  into a necklace for her when she was told   they are to bring good luck to the wearer and ward off evil.
She and Bob searched the web and found this information to share with you on Sea Beans.

The stage was set up in the park today for good reason; the mayor invited these very talented young dancers to perform.

The costumes were so colourful, I apologize because my camera doesn't portray their full beauty

Flowers for sale, anyone want'a buy some?

Dancers came into the crowd to dance with spectators

The performance was enjoyed by all

Allan has been trying to purchase peanut butter since we got here on the 7th; until tonight he has not been able to find any. I took this photo  because 1) the peanut butter, a 794 gram size, cost him 100 Pesos - that is close to $10.00 Canadian and 2) the manager of the restaurant we had dinner in loves peanut butter as much as Allan,  after he heard the story  he gave him a loaf of homemade bread to go with it.

Thursday Feb 23, 2012

Today we made another visit to the Mayan Market here in town. There is  every thing you would want in the line of  souvenirs right here in Puerto Morelos; no need to go to Playa or Cancun. The same goes for food, it is all right here, great restaurants serving a great variety of foods and markets to purchase food if you should wish to prepare your own meals.

Interesting pieces of jewellery
Very beautifully coloured accessories

Don't you love the vibrant colours of the brooms - I wonder if this is a simple man's idea of making the little woman enjoy cleaning the house?

The need for nourishment took us back to La Papa Cafe in the Colonia the for lunch. We love their potatoe dishes. I have been ordering the "kitchen sink" Love it!! It has everything you can imagine in it. In case you have forgotten or not hear of this dish before it starts with mashed, creamed potatoes; add pieces of meat, vegetables then cover with cheese and sauces, then heat through. Gooooood!

The owner/operator introduced us to her  cucumber lemonade. Wow, was it good! So good, I thought I would share an Internet photo and  one of many recipes to make it.

Were do bananas come from? Like me you would (well most of you would) say, "a banana tree of course."  Not! They come from the banana plant. That was my first lesson, the second was that bananas are not allowed to ripen on the plant. If they are not picked early they will rot and make only good bird food. The cluster of bananas  is picked and placed in a cool shaded area where the bananas are allowed to ripen. The third thing I learned is that  the banana plant produces only one bunch of bananas and then it dies. Oh, there is more, the roots produce more banana plants on an ongoing basis and the banana leaves are used to wrap some foods in for cooking. I must say the banana not only is a very nutritious fruit but it is full of surprises. Causes one to think about researching it on the net because I am sure there is a lot more to learn about it.

Another walk through a vegetable market in the colonia

We came across a sale of new and unfinished furniture.
No prices were marked and no salesperson to bargain with
 so we left.

Couldn't resist a look through the meat market

One pig head and 2 halves.

This little angel was very tired and like most little ones didn't want to give into sleep

I haven't figured this one out yet, but it looks like this section of new sidewalk is painted red.

One of the local roof top King dogs very curious about what the rascals are up to in his kingdom.
We had a very nice dinner at this restaurant tonight. Food was great and reasonably priced.

Another picture with our favourite finger painter Abraham

One of his many masterpieces for sale

Bob and Abraham at Edith's level. Abraham tells us Edith's name in Spanish is pronounced as "Edit"

This is the the third time we have purchased baking from Pan De Dona Pily, this time we bought her pineapple upside down cake, whole wheat bread again and carrot muffins.

In the past along with the whole wheat bread we have purchased carrot cake, bran muffins and oatmeal honey muffins.

Everything has been D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S! AND SHE DELIVERS - how good is that!!
