Tomorrow morning we leave for Merida to experience part of their Carnival.

Carnival is a festive season which occurs immediately before Lent; the main events are usually during February. Carnival typically involves a public celebration or parade combining some elements of a circus, mask and public street party. People often dress up or masquerade during the celebrations, which mark an overturning of daily life.

One of the most important times of the Catholic calendar  is Lent.  Beginning on Ash Wednesday, Catholics begin to prepare for the Easter celebration with prayers, small sacrifices of our favorite things , and personal reflection.  This is also the time of year when Catholics refrain from eating meat on Fridays, which is why many people organize a symbolic goodbye party for the meat…”Carne Vai”, the carnival

We will be staying at the Dolores Alba Hotel - see this site:

Wednesday March 2, 2011

The kids arrived home safe and sound this afternoon. They encountered blizzard conditions below Berry but after they passed through it they came to clearer weather and had  good travelling the rest of the way home.

Getting rested up

Bob checking to see if they have recieved any messages from home

Hey, did you need another photo for your collection?

Fish for sale at the fish market in town

The price list for the public wishing to purchase fresh fish

The prayer centre at the fish market where the fisherman have prayer prior to their fishing expeditions.

We were invited out to a friend's home for dinner - they had high chairs for Edith (still hardly high enough)

Tonight we had  dinner at the new restaurant at the Villas Latinas location. The special was lobster - (2 lobster tails believe it or not) for $15.00 US. The lobster season is over now so this will be the last lobster dinner until the next season. OMG - it was delicious! Shirley, you are asking if it was as good as what we have had on South Bay - you know what? I am not even going there!

We had breakfast there yesterday morning with the kids - the price was good and the food was great. We will definitely be back!
